Reflecting on Last Week

Looking Ahead

At our last board meeting, we selected two architectural firms to design our upcoming projects.  A special thanks to you, our employees, parents, and community for giving us a unique opportunity to upgrade our facilities so that they match the quality of academic excellence inside our classrooms.  We selected Tipton Associates for the renovation of the career tech facility, the auditorium, and the construction of the Freshman Academy.  Tipton Associates comes highly regarded, has an extensive resume, and has renovated facilities like the LSU Honors College.  We selected Coleman Partners to build the new elementary school and complete necessary roadwork infrastructure to access the new school.  Coleman Partners like Tipton comes highly regarded, has an extensive resume, and just completed Park Elementary school in Baton Rouge, which is a beautiful school that was built on time and within budget. We are finalizing both contracts with each architectural firm and will bring the contracts to the board for final approval in September.  After final approval, we will begin the designing stage, which we hope to complete by late spring or early summer.  The building stage will start in the summer and our ambitious goal is to have both renovations completed by the spring of 2021, a Freshman Academy by the fall of 2021, and a new Bains Elementary by the Fall of 2022.  We are also working on road improvements within the master plan as traffic is a major concern to everyone. Of course all of these timelines are subject to many challenges we do not control.  However, we are going to do what we can to keep the projects on the timeline and within the budget.  Again, we are grateful for the opportunity to transform our facilities, so they better meet the needs of students.  #wearewestfel #grateFEL

We are very grateful to see our students at Bains Elementary so focused on reading.  Many students at Bains take time each morning before school to read.  Reading not only helps our students be successful in academics, it provides a window to other places and people that helps our students become more well-rounded.  #grateFEL
