What a special day at Cat Island National Wildlife Refuge! The morning kicked off by celebrating a wetland restoration project that began in 2020 and continues annually. Students from West Feliciana High School, along with their former teachers, members of the Friends of Cat Island, Louisiana Sea Grant, and US Fish and Wildlife Service planted four trees near the Grand Champion Bald Cypress to commemorate the partnership between the community and West Feliciana Parish Schools. Later in the day, 50 middle school students joined, learning about the vital role of wetlands and the impact of seasonal flooding at the refuge. They also planted 35 trees to help restore areas impacted by last year's tornadoes. We are so #GrateFEL to all of the members of the community who came out to support our students.
